Duties/Responsibilities:
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Sub Office and direct supervision of Administrative Assistant, the driver will be responsible for, and not limited to, the following duties:
qDrive assigned means of transport for the transport of authorized WFP Staff member, visitors, goods, messages, mail, etc;
qDrives WFP staff and official visitors to/from the country/regional office as per authorized routing and as per UN safety and security rules and regulations;
qCollect and deliver goods, mail, documents, and other items;
qMeet official personnel at the airport and facilitate immigration and customs formalities as required;
qNotify the Admin Assistant /ICT Assistant immediately if the vehicle develops either a mechanical or radio fault;
qTake care of the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned means of transport, check oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc; perform minor repairs and arrange for other repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean;
qLog official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc;
qEnsure that non UN passenger completes a waiver before the trip commences;
qComply with the Road Rules and Regulations of Timor-Leste;
qMaintain a valid Timor-Leste Driver License;
qIn case of an accident, whether with another vehicle, person or other property, the driver is to immediately report same to the Field Security Officer;
qComply with all movement restrictions and reporting requirements via VHF and HF radios to SOC;
qRead & understand specific vehicle/vessel operating manual to ensure the safe and appropriate operations of the vehicle;
qCheck means of transport for mechanical fitness and the security of the cargo, ensuring that cargo is protected against all weather conditions;
qCheck log books of the WFP vehicles/vessels for completeness of record;
qPerform any other duties as and when required.
Qualifications/Experience:
§Primary School education.At least 3 years of work experience as a driver with a minimum 6 months valid driver license.
§Sound judgment, initiative and integrity; high sense of responsibility, alertness, physical fitness on duty, emotional stability, neat and courteous.
§Good knowledge of the area and the current conditions of roads and highways. Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
§Basic knowledge in both oral and written English. Knowledge of local languages.
