The U.S. Embassy in Dili is seeking an individual for the position of Temporary Physician in its Management Office located at Rua Praia dos Coqueiros Dili, Timor-Leste. 

POSITION: Temporary Physician (WAE  When Actually Employed) 

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT : 17 DECEMBER 2012 TO 17 JANUARY 2013 
(20 HOURS/WEEK AND ON CALL) 

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION: 


The physician provides medical services to American direct hire employees and dependents of all agencies in temporary absence of Embassy medical officer during her leave. S/He sees Foreign Service National employees upon occasion of injury or job related illness. S/He works without close technical supervision and has full responsibility for planning and administering the health program at post including at-post hospitalizations and medical evacuations. S/He serves as liaison between local community and mission regarding all aspects of health, environmental health concern and medical resource management. 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: 

1) 
M.D. collegiate degree, completion of an approved internship and residency, and license to practice medicine. Training must have occurred in the USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, South or Central America, Europe, the UK, Singapore or S Africa. Current specialty Board certification is highly desirable. 2) An internship and a minimum of three years of formal residency training or equivalent training are required. The ideal candidate has prior practice in the U.S.A or other region as listed above and at least five years of progressive experience in internal medicine, family practice, or emergency medicine. The ideal candidate also has experience with International medical evacuations, including experience with high altitude and flight-related effects on medevac patients (e.g. “flight medicine”); Travel medicine; Pediatrics and OB/GYN experience; Familiarity with immunization program both routine immunizations and travel immunizations. 3) Level IV English pus fluency in use of professional medical terminology are essential. 4) Must have general practice knowledge and understanding to deal with all types of cases seen in Health Unit. Specifically: - Must have knowledge and understanding of Advance Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advance Life Support, Advance Trauma Life Support and Emergency Preparedness for chemical, biological and radiological situations or willingness to learn within 6 months of starting position.  Should be willing and able to attend annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) training and seminars to stay current with medical practice at US and European standards; - should be aware of occupational, safety and health administration regulations and practices in line with US and European standards or how to access such information; 5) Must be sensitive to needs and feelings of others and be approachable to every person at post in order to obtain and maintain the trust and confidence of employees and dependents. Maturity, stability, objectivity, resourcefulness, adaptability and sound professional judgment are essential in this position. Must have a customer-service orientation.
