The vision of NGO Ba Futuru, established in 2004, is to transform mistrust and violence into peace and self-directed growth by supporting the people of Timor-Leste to create a positive future for themselves, their families and their communities. Ba Futuru's mission is to contribute to peace-building and sustainable human development by facilitating the psychosocial recovery of conflict-affected, vulnerable and at-risk children and youth. We seek to achieve this by developing the knowledge, skills and values of community leaders, young people and their carers in the areas of human rights, children’s rights, child protection and non-violent conflict transformation. Ba Futuru’s activities are founded on the principles of mutual learning, capacity development, artistic self-expression and the rights of the child.
Position Overview
The IT National Staff will:
- set up and maintain computers and other related hardware (ex. UPS battery)
- install and update software
- assist staff to use computers and software
- set up and maintain cable and hardware to access the Internet
- set up and maintain the Intranet among computers, printers and an internal server
- make regular back-up of computers and the internal server
- assist to set up computers and other hardware at Ba Futuru’s events and exhibitions
- update Ba Futuru’s homepage (preferred)
- design Ba Futuru’s Newsletter (preferred)
The IT National Staff works collaboratively with Ba Futuru’s all staff to ensure that Ba Futuru efficiently functions and conducts its projects.
Primary responsibilities of this position include maintaining computers and other related hardware, assisting other staff to use computers and software, maintaining the Internet connection at Ba Futuru’s office. The position will be based at Ba Futuru’s Peace Center in Rai Kotu, Dili and may include some travel to events and exhibition Ba Futuru organizes (mostly in Dili).
She/he will be responsible for ensuring they understand computers, assist other staff to work around computers and its software, and keep environment in which staff could work effectively work.
This position is preferably full-time (40 hours/week), but part-time (20-30 hours/week) is also available. Compensation will be between $200-600 per month depending on skills and experience, with generous annual leave, depending on experience. The initial contract will be for 1 year with a probation period of 3 months.
She/he will agree to Ba Futuru’s Child Protection Policy and comply with personnel policies.
Desired Qualifications and Attributes:
o Timorese nationality
o A commitment to Ba Futuru’s mission and values
o A commitment to non-violence and child protection
Background and Experience
o Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or the related field preferred,
o Experience in IT related field preferred
o Exposure to non-governmental organizations in Timor-Leste preferred
Skills/Knowledge
o Knowledge of computers (especially Mac)
o Knowledge of the Internet/Intranet connection and its set-up/maintenance
o Knowledge of computer languages (HTML, Java etc.) preferred
o Good written and spoken communication skills
o Fluency in Tetum and Advanced English an advantage
o Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage time effectively
o Ability to multi-task and work well under pressure
o Ability to think creatively and improvise
o Ability to work independently and to collaboratively
o Willingness to work a flexible schedule
